Medicare Child Benefits Scheme
What is the Medicare Child Benefits Scheme
If you receive payment entitlements from Centrelink then your child may be eligible to have dental treatment with us, (a private dental clinic) as opposed to having treatment at the school dentist or treatment at the government dental clinics where there may be long wait times.
Hopefully this scheme allows your child access to treatment at a time that is convenient for you, without the financial burden of paying private fees.
What Treatment is Covered
Medicare will cover up to $1,013 over 2 calendar years for basic dental services. The services they cover include
-
check-ups
-
x-rays
-
cleaning
-
fillings
-
root canals
-
extraction

Items Medicare won't cover include orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental treatment, and dental services in a hospital.

If your child has had a check-up and clean within the previous 6 months (even if it was at a different clinic) these items will not be covered again.

If your child is eligible they must be;

-
2 to 17 years old for at least 1 day that year
-
eligible for Medicae
-
getting a payment from Medicare at least once a year, or have a parent getting payment from Medicare at least once a year

There may be an out of pocket expense between the cost of your treatment and what Medicare covers per item.
